Spiritual Climate
Nepal is one of the few countries in the world where Hinduism is the state religion. Christians make up only 1–3% of the population and face significant social pressure and legal restrictions. Despite these challenging conditions, the underground church continues to grow, and believers have a deep hunger for God’s Word. However, there is a serious lack of mother-tongue biblical and discipleship resources. Most believers must rely on English or Nepali translations, making it difficult to understand Scripture deeply and apply it to their lives.
SOWIM is committed to providing contextualized discipleship materials, enabling Nepali believers to know God through the language of their hearts—taking root and growing in faith amid a spiritual desert.
Ministry Overview
Newar (Nepal Bhasa) Translation of the Book of Ruth
SOWIM is partnering with Nepali missionaries to translate The Book of Ruth Discipleship Bible Study Guide into Newar (Nepal Bhasa), the primary language of the Newar people in the Kathmandu Valley. The Book of Ruth tells the story of a Gentile woman turning to the one true God, making it especially meaningful and relevant within Nepal’s cross-cultural context. The translation team includes local pastors, seminary students, and language specialists, ensuring that the material remains faithful to the biblical text while being culturally accessible and relevant. Once completed, this project will serve hundreds of thousands of Newar believers and become the first systematic discipleship resource available in the Newar language, helping believers grow deep roots in God’s Word.
