Spiritual Climate

Pakistan’s population is approximately 97% Muslim, with Christians making up less than 2%. For decades, believers have faced severe religious persecution and social discrimination. Many churches are located in impoverished communities, and Christians often lose their jobs or face threats of violence because of their faith. Despite these dangerous conditions, the underground church remains steadfast and deeply hungry for spiritual nourishment. In early 2025, devastating floods displaced millions of people, with Christian communities among the hardest hit. Yet in the midst of disaster, the church became a beacon of hope—demonstrating the love of Christ through relief efforts and drawing Muslims to encounter the gospel.

Ministry Overview

SOWIM has partnered for many years with Maxwell Khokhar in Lahore, providing Urdu-language Bible study materials and teaching videos to equip local churches for discipleship and mission. These resources help believers take root in biblical truth amid persecution and share the gospel with their Muslim neighbors. Following the severe floods in 2025, SOWIM launched an emergency relief initiative, raising funds to support local churches in providing food, clean water, medical care, and shelter. In the midst of disaster, the churches put into practice the call to “care for orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27), bearing witness to God’s love through action and opening doors for the gospel.
